The story of the Shriners began with a simple but powerful idea: that men could come together not only for fellowship, but for a greater purpose — to serve others with joy, compassion, and unity.
Founded in 1872 by a group of Freemasons in New York City, the Shriners quickly grew into a vibrant fraternity known for its distinctive red fezzes, colorful parades, and deep commitment to philanthropy. What started as a vision among friends became a movement that would touch millions of lives.
In 1922, the Shriners took their commitment to compassion one step further by founding the first Shriners Children’s hospital. Their goal was bold: to provide world-class medical care to children, regardless of their families’ ability to pay.
That mission continues today through a network of pediatric specialty hospitals and clinics across North America — and it remains at the heart of everything we do.
As one of the oldest Shrine temples in the world, Al Koran Shriners has played a vital role in carrying this legacy forward. For generations, our members have served with pride — in our communities, in our hospitals, and in each other’s lives.
We honor the past not just by remembering it, but by living its values every day.
The story of the Shriners is still being written — and you can help shape what comes next. When you join Al Koran Shriners, you become part of a legacy of purpose, pride, and brotherhood that spans centuries.
